Problem

Maximum trajectory area * A ball is thrown at speed vv from zero height on level ground. At what angle should it be thrown so that the area under the trajectory is maximum?
Intuitive explanation

The key insight is that the area under a projectile's path depends on both how high and how far the ball travels—and these compete with each other as you change the launch angle. Rather than maximizing range or height separately, you need to find the angle that balances them to create the largest enclosed region. Setting up the trajectory equation y(x)y(x) and integrating to find area as a function of angle, then optimizing, reveals which angle wins this trade-off.
