Problem

Using covering spaces, show that an index nn subgroup HH of a group GG has at most nn conjugate subgroups gHg−1gHg^{-1} in GG. Apply this to show that there exists a normal subgroup K⊂GK \subset G of finite index with K⊂HK \subset H. [For the latter statement, consider the intersection of all the conjugate subgroups gHg−1gHg^{-1}. This is the maximal normal subgroup of GG contained in HH.]
