Problem

Show that the continued fraction for a rational number is unique except for replacing a final term 1an\frac{1}{a_n} by 1an−1+11\frac{1}{a_n - 1} + \frac{1}{1} when an>1a_n > 1. For example 13+15=13+14+11\frac{1}{3} + \frac{1}{5} = \frac{1}{3} + \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{1}.
