Problem

Prove the following stronger version of one direction of Lemma 3.1.7: Let S⊂RS \subset \mathbb{R}, cc be a cluster point of SS, and f:S→Rf : S \to \mathbb{R} be a function. Suppose that for every sequence {xn}n=1∞\{x_n\}_{n=1}^\infty in S∖{c}S \setminus \{c\} such that lim⁡n→∞xn=c\lim_{n \to \infty} x_n = c the sequence {f(xn)}n=1∞\bigl\{f(x_n)\bigr\}_{n=1}^\infty is convergent. Then show that the limit of f(x)f(x) as x→cx \to c exists.
