Problem

Use the Cantor set to prove that there exists a (positive) measure ν\nu on (R,B)(\mathbf{R}, \mathcal{B}) such that ν⊥λ\nu \perp \lambda and ν(R)≠0\nu(\mathbf{R}) \neq 0 but ν({x})=0\nu(\{x\}) = 0 for every x∈Rx \in \mathbf{R}; here λ\lambda denotes Lebesgue measure on the σ\sigma-algebra B\mathcal{B} of Borel subsets of R\mathbf{R}. [The second bullet point in Example 9.29 does not provide an example of the desired behavior because in that example, ν({rk})≠0\nu(\{r_k\}) \neq 0 for all k∈Z+k \in \mathbf{Z}^+ with wk≠0w_k \neq 0.]
