Problem

Consider the vectors a=⟨k,2,−1⟩\mathbf{a}=\langle k,2,-1\rangle and b=⟨3,−k,4⟩\mathbf{b}=\langle 3,-k,4\rangle, where kk is a real number. a. (i) Determine the value of kk for which a\mathbf{a} is perpendicular to b\mathbf{b}. b. (ii) For the value of kk obtained in part (i), compute (a+2b) ⁣⋅ ⁣(a−b)(\mathbf{a}+2\mathbf{b})\!\cdot\!(\mathbf{a}-\mathbf{b}). c. (iii) Using your answer from part (ii), find ∣a+2b∣2|\mathbf{a}+2\mathbf{b}|^{2}.
