Problem

Suppose μ\mu is the measure on (Z+,2Z+)(\mathbf{Z}^+, 2^{\mathbf{Z}^+}) defined by μ(E)=∑n∈E12n.\mu(E) = \sum_{n \in E} \frac{1}{2^n}. Prove that for every ε>0\varepsilon > 0, there exists a set E⊆Z+E \subseteq \mathbf{Z}^+ with μ(Z+∖E)<ε\mu(\mathbf{Z}^+ \setminus E) < \varepsilon such that f1,f2,…f_1, f_2, \ldots converges uniformly on EE for every sequence of functions f1,f2,…f_1, f_2, \ldots from Z+\mathbf{Z}^+ to R\mathbf{R} that converges pointwise on Z+\mathbf{Z}^+. [This result does not follow from Egorov's Theorem because here we are asking for EE to depend only on ε\varepsilon. In Egorov's Theorem, EE depends on ε\varepsilon and on the sequence f1,f2,…f_1, f_2, \ldots.]
