Problem

Suppose v1,…,vnv_1, \ldots, v_n is a basis of VV and T∈L(V)T \in \mathcal{L}(V). Prove that if λ\lambda is an eigenvalue of TT, then ∣λ∣2≤∑j=1n∑k=1n∣M(T)j,k∣2,|\lambda|^2 \leq \sum_{j=1}^{n} \sum_{k=1}^{n} |\mathcal{M}(T)_{j,k}|^2, where M(T)j,k\mathcal{M}(T)_{j,k} denotes the entry in row jj, column kk of the matrix of TT with respect to the basis v1,…,vnv_1, \ldots, v_n.
