Problem

Suppose T∈L(V)T \in \mathcal{L}(V) and λ\lambda is an eigenvalue of TT. Explain why the exponent of z−λz - \lambda in the factorization of the minimal polynomial of TT is the smallest positive integer mm such that (T−λI)m∣G(λ,T)=0(T - \lambda I)^m|_{G(\lambda, T)} = 0.
