Problem

Using partial fraction decomposition, show that if zz lies in the right half-plane and CC is the line segment joining 00 to zz, then ∫C1ξ2+1 dξ=Arctan⁡(z)=i2Log⁡(z+i)−i2Log⁡(z−i)+π2.\int_C \frac{1}{\xi^2+1}\,d\xi = \operatorname{Arctan}(z) = \frac{i}{2}\operatorname{Log}(z+i) - \frac{i}{2}\operatorname{Log}(z-i) + \frac{\pi}{2}.
