Problem

Consider an electron moving in the xyxy plane with a non-uniform but periodic magnetic field along the z^\hat{z} direction: B⃗(r⃗)=z^B(r⃗)\vec{B}(\vec{r}) = \hat{z} B(\vec{r}), with r⃗\vec{r} being a 2D vector. Its periodicity is specified by B(r⃗+a⃗j)=B(r⃗)B(\vec{r} + \vec{a}_j) = B(\vec{r}), with {a⃗j}\{\vec{a}_j\} forming a Bravais lattice with primitive unit cell area AA. The magnetic flux enclosed in such a unit cell is pΦ0/qp\Phi_0/q, where Φ0\Phi_0 is the flux quantum and pp and qq are mutually prime integers. Find the size of the magnetic unit cell, and corresponding magnetic translation operators similar to that of Eq. (12.99).
