Problem

Determine the translational, rotational and vibrational contributions towards the molar entropy and the molar specific heat of carbon dioxide at N.T.P. Assume the ideal-gas formulae and use the following data: molecular weight M=44.01M = 44.01; moment of inertia II of a CO2_2 molecule =71.67×10−40= 71.67 \times 10^{-40} g cm2^2; wave numbers of the various modes of vibration: vˉ1=vˉ2=667.3\bar{v}_1 = \bar{v}_2 = 667.3 cm−1^{-1}, vˉ3=1383.3\bar{v}_3 = 1383.3 cm−1^{-1} and vˉ4=2439.3\bar{v}_4 = 2439.3 cm−1^{-1}.
