Problem

Determine the molar specific heat of ammonia at a temperature of 300 K. Assume the ideal-gas formula and use the following data: the principal moments of inertia: I1=4.44×10−40I_1 = 4.44 \times 10^{-40} g cm2^2, I2=I3=2.816×10−40I_2 = I_3 = 2.816 \times 10^{-40} g cm2^2; wave numbers of the various modes of vibration: νˉ1=νˉ2=3336\bar{\nu}_1 = \bar{\nu}_2 = 3336 cm−1^{-1}, νˉ3=νˉ4=950\bar{\nu}_3 = \bar{\nu}_4 = 950 cm−1^{-1}; νˉ5=3414\bar{\nu}_5 = 3414 cm−1^{-1} and νˉ6=1627\bar{\nu}_6 = 1627 cm−1^{-1}.
