Problem

A sequence is defined by the general term an=pn+qa_n = pn + q, where pp and qq are real constants and n≥1n \ge 1. a. (a) Prove that the sequence {an}\{a_n\} is an arithmetic progression. b. (b) Conversely, let {bn}\{b_n\} be any arithmetic progression with first term b1b_1 and common difference dd. Prove that bnb_n can be expressed in the form bn=pn+qb_n = pn + q, and identify pp and qq in terms of b1b_1 and dd.
