A hiker undertakes a three-leg journey as follows:
1. 150m due east,
2. 100m due north,
3. 70m in a direction 30∘ south of west.
All legs start where the previous one ends.
a. (i) Select an appropriate scale and draw the complete path of the hiker on graph paper by placing the three displacement vectors head-to-tail.
b. (ii) By direct measurement on the diagram, determine the magnitude of the hiker’s net displacement from the starting point.
c. (iii) Measure the direction of this displacement relative to the east direction and state it in degrees.
