Problem

A ball of mass mm attached to an inextensible string of length RR is swung around a vertical circle just fast enough so that the string is always fully stretched. Let ΔT\Delta T denote the difference between the tension in the string at the bottom and at the top of the circle, vbv_b and vtv_t the speed of the ball at the bottom and at the top, respectively. Then, taking "dependence" to be with respect to a set of independent variables, (a) ΔT\Delta T is independent of RR, vbv_b and vtv_t; (b) ΔT\Delta T is independent of RR, but depends on vb2−vt2v_b^2 - v_t^2; (c) ΔT\Delta T depends on RR, but on neither vbv_b nor vtv_t; (d) ΔT\Delta T depends on RR and vb2−vt2v_b^2 - v_t^2.
