Problem

Consider a long, tightly wound solenoid carrying a steady current and a bar magnet of the same length as the solenoid. a. (i) Draw a qualitative diagram showing the magnetic field lines inside and outside the solenoid. b. (ii) On a separate diagram, draw the magnetic field lines for the bar magnet. c. (iii) A point X lies on the common axis of both objects at a distance equal to half their length from the centre. Without performing numerical calculations, state which of the two objects produces a stronger magnetic field at X and justify your answer on the basis of the respective field-line distributions.
