Problem

Suppose VV is finite-dimensional and T ⁣:V→WT \colon V \to W is a surjective linear map of VV onto WW. Prove that there is a subspace UU of VV such that T∣UT|_U is an isomorphism of UU onto WW. Here T∣UT|_U means the function TT restricted to UU. Thus T∣UT|_U is the function whose domain is UU, with T∣UT|_U defined by T∣U(u)=TuT|_U(u) = Tu for every u∈Uu \in U.
