Problem

(a) Consider an X-ray burster that releases 103210^{32} J in 5 seconds. If the shape of its peak spectrum is that of a 2×1072 \times 10^7 K blackbody, estimate the radius of the underlying neutron star. (b) In Problem 17.9 you showed that using the Stefan–Boltzmann formula to find the radius of a compact blackbody can lead to an overestimate of its radius. Use Eq. (17.33) to find a more accurate value for the radius of the neutron star.
