Problem

A particle PP of mass mm slides on the smooth inner surface of a circular cone of semi-angle α\alpha. The axis of symmetry of the cone is vertical with the vertex OO pointing downwards. Take as generalised coordinates rr, the distance OPOP, and ϕ\phi, the azimuthal angle about the vertical through OO. Obtain Lagrange's equations. Show that ϕ\phi is a cyclic coordinate and find (and identify) the conserved momentum pϕp_\phi.
