Problem

A metal has a work function of 2.0 eV2.0\,\text{eV}. It is first illuminated by light of frequency 8.0×1014 Hz8.0\times10^{14}\,\text{Hz} and later by light of lower frequency. (i) Calculate the stopping potential when the incident frequency is 8.0×1014 Hz8.0\times10^{14}\,\text{Hz}. (ii) The frequency is now reduced by 25%25\% while intensity remains the same. Determine the new stopping potential provided photoemission still occurs. (iii) Keeping the reduced frequency of part (ii) fixed, the intensity of the radiation is doubled. State with reason how each of the following quantities will change, if at all: (a) stopping potential, (b) saturation photocurrent.
