Problem

a. A metal rod 0.30 m0.30\,\text{m} long moves at a constant speed of 4.0 m s−14.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} on two parallel conducting rails placed 0.30 m0.30\,\text{m} apart in a uniform magnetic field of 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}, the field being perpendicular to the plane of the rails. The rails are connected by a 2 Ω2\,\Omega resistor. Calculate the induced current in the circuit. b. Determine the mechanical power that must be supplied to keep the rod moving at the stated speed and show that it equals the electrical power dissipated in the resistor.
