Problem

Let u(x,y)u(x,y) be harmonic on a region DD that is symmetric about the line y=0y = 0. Show that U(x,y)=u(x,−y)U(x,y) = u(x,-y) is harmonic on DD. Hint: Use the chain rule for differentiation of real functions and note that u(x,−y)u(x,-y) is really the function u(g(x,y))u\bigl(g(x,y)\bigr), where g(x,y)=(x,−y)g(x,y) = (x,-y).
