Problem

A straight nozzle attached to a fire hose reduces its inside diameter uniformly from 7.5 cm7.5\,\text{cm} at the hose end to 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} at the tip over a length of 40 cm40\,\text{cm}. Water is discharged steadily at the rate of 0.015 m3 s−10.015\,\text{m}^{3}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Calculate: a. (i) the speed of water at the hose–nozzle junction b. (ii) the speed of water at the nozzle tip c. (iii) the average rate of change of speed per centimetre along the nozzle
