Problem
Let f be the bilinear form on C2 defined by
f((x1,x2),(y1,y2))=x1y2−x2y1.
Show that
(a) if T is a linear operator on C2, then f(Tα,Tβ)=(detT)f(α,β) for all α,β in C2.
(b) T preserves f if and only if detT=+1.
(c) What does (b) say about the group of 2×2 matrices M such that MtAM=A where
A=[0−110]?
