Problem

Give an example of a measurable space (X,S)(X, \mathcal{S}) and a family {ft}t∈R\{f_t\}_{t \in \mathbf{R}} such that each ftf_t is an S\mathcal{S}-measurable function from XX to [0,1][0,1], but the function f:X→[0,1]f : X \to [0,1] defined by f(x)=sup⁡{ft(x):t∈R}f(x) = \sup\{f_t(x) : t \in \mathbf{R}\} is not S\mathcal{S}-measurable. [Compare this exercise to 2.53, where the index set is Z+\mathbf{Z}^+ rather than R\mathbf{R}.]
