Problem

A voltmeter with a finite resistance Rv=1000 ΩR_{v} = 1000\,\Omega is used to measure the voltage across a resistor R1=500 ΩR_{1} = 500\,\Omega. R1R_{1} is connected in series with another resistor R2=500 ΩR_{2} = 500\,\Omega across a 10 V10\,\text{V} supply. Calculate the percentage error in the voltmeter reading compared to the true voltage across R1R_{1} (without the voltmeter connected).
