Problem

Let VV be the vector space of all polynomial functions pp from RR into RR which have degree 2 or less: p(x)=c0+c1x+c2x2.p(x) = c_0 + c_1 x + c_2 x^2. Define three linear functionals on VV by f1(p)=∫01p(x) dx,f2(p)=∫02p(x) dx,f3(p)=∫0−1p(x) dx.f_1(p) = \int_0^1 p(x)\,dx, \quad f_2(p) = \int_0^2 p(x)\,dx, \quad f_3(p) = \int_0^{-1} p(x)\,dx. Show that {f1,f2,f3}\{f_1, f_2, f_3\} is a basis for V∗V^* by exhibiting the basis for VV of which it is the dual.
