Problem

A muon and a proton are bound together in the ground state of a muonic ``hydrogen atom.'' As this atom diffuses around, it bumps into a deuteron. What is the incentive in terms of energy for the muon to jump from the proton to the deuteron, forming another muonic atom, but this time with the deuteron instead of the proton as the nucleus? Explain.
