Problem

Show that T1/T0T_1/T_0 can be expressed in terms of m2/m1≡αm_2/m_1 \equiv \alpha and cos⁡ψ≡y\cos\psi \equiv y as T1T0=(1+α)−2(2y2+α2−1+2yα2+y2−1)\frac{T_1}{T_0} = (1 + \alpha)^{-2}\left(2y^2 + \alpha^2 - 1 + 2y\sqrt{\alpha^2 + y^2 - 1}\right) Plot T1/T0T_1/T_0 as a function of ψ\psi for α=1,2,4\alpha = 1, 2, 4, and 12. These plots correspond to the energies of protons or neutrons after scattering from hydrogen (α=1\alpha = 1), deuterium (α=2\alpha = 2), helium (α=4\alpha = 4), and carbon (α=12\alpha = 12), or of alpha particles scattered from helium (α=1\alpha = 1), oxygen (α=4\alpha = 4), and so forth.
