Problem

Using Newtonian gravity, estimate the amount of energy required to move 10710^7 M⊙_\odot from a position just above the event horizon of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Galaxy to 3 kpc, the present location of the expanding arm. Compare your answer to the amount of energy liberated in a typical Type II supernova.
