Problem

Examine the validity of the Born approximation for the Yukawa potential V(r)=βe−μr/rV(r) = \beta e^{-\mu r}/r. (a) Show that at low energies (ka≪1ka \ll 1, where a=1/μa = 1/\mu), the Born approximation is valid provided 2m∣β∣ℏ2μ≪1\frac{2m|\beta|}{\hbar^2 \mu} \ll 1. (b) Show that at high energies (ka≫1ka \gg 1), the Born approximation is valid provided 2m∣β∣ℏ2k≪1\frac{2m|\beta|}{\hbar^2 k} \ll 1.
