Problem

A photon collides with a stationary electron. If the photon scatters at an angle θ\theta, show that the resulting wavelength, λ′\lambda', is given in terms of the original wavelength, λ\lambda, by λ′=λ+hmc(1−cos⁡θ),\lambda' = \lambda + \frac{h}{mc}(1 - \cos\theta), where mm is the mass of the electron. Note: The energy of a photon is E=hν=hc/λE = h\nu = hc/\lambda.
