Problem

Suppose VV is finite-dimensional, T∈L(V)T \in \mathcal{L}(V), and v∈Vv \in V. (a) Prove that there exists a unique monic polynomial pvp_v of smallest degree such that pv(T)v=0p_v(T)v = 0. (b) Prove that the minimal polynomial of TT is a polynomial multiple of pvp_v.
