Problem

A particle PP of mass mm moves under the attractive inverse square field F=−(mγ/r2)r^\boldsymbol{F} = -(m\gamma/r^2)\hat{\boldsymbol{r}}. Initially PP is at a point CC, a distance cc from OO, when it is projected with speed (γ/c)1/2(\gamma/c)^{1/2} in a direction making an acute angle α\alpha with the line OCOC. Find the apsidal distances in the resulting orbit. Given that the orbit is an ellipse with OO at a focus, find the semi-major and semi-minor axes of this ellipse.
