Problem

Consider the following four mathematical expressions: (a) 5,8,11,…,295, 8, 11, \dots , 29 (b) 2+4+6+8+…2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + \dots (c) 7,6,5,4,3,…7, 6, 5, 4, 3, \dots (d) 3+6+9+123 + 6 + 9 + 12 Classify each expression and justify your conclusion. a. (i) For each expression (a)–(d), state whether it represents a sequence or a series and whether it is finite or infinite. Give reasons in each case. b. (ii) For every expression that represents a sequence, determine whether it is an arithmetic progression. If it is an AP, find its common difference; if it is not, explain precisely why the condition for an AP fails.
