Problem

A student pulls a sled along a straight, level track in three successive segments using the same constant force of magnitude 60 N60\,\text{N}. The direction of the force changes as shown below: • Segment A : 5 m5\,\text{m} at an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} to the direction of motion. • Segment B : 3 m3\,\text{m} at an angle of 90∘90^{\circ} to the direction of motion. • Segment C : 7 m7\,\text{m} at an angle of 150∘150^{\circ} to the direction of motion. (i) For each segment, state the sign of the work done by the pulling force. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of the work done in each segment. (iii) Find the total work done by the student over the entire 15 m15\,\text{m} path and comment on whether the overall work is positive, zero or negative.
