Problem

A particle moves in the plane so that its velocity for time 0≤t≤10\le t\le 1 is given by v(t)=⟨et, t2⟩\mathbf v(t)=\langle e^{t},\,t^{2}\rangle (units are meters per second and seconds). (a) Write a definite integral that represents the total distance traveled by the particle from t=0t=0 to t=1t=1. Do not evaluate the integral. (b) Clearly describe the physical meaning and the units of the integrand you wrote in part (a). (c) Explain why the value of the integral in part (a) must be non-negative and how this relates to the concept of distance traveled.
