Problem

A particle PP of mass mm moves under the simple harmonic field F=−(mΩ2r)r^\boldsymbol{F} = -(m\Omega^2 r)\hat{\boldsymbol{r}}, where Ω\Omega is a positive constant. Obtain the radial motion equation and show that all orbits of PP are bounded. Initially PP is at a point CC, a distance cc from OO, when it is projected with speed Ωc\Omega c in a direction making an acute angle α\alpha with OCOC. Find the equation satisfied by the apsidal distances. Given that the orbit of PP is an ellipse with centre OO, find the semi-major and semi-minor axes of this ellipse.
