Problem

Let FF be a subfield of the complex numbers and let TT, DD be the transformations on F[x]F[x] defined by T ⁣(∑i=0ncixi)=∑i=0nci1+i xi+1T\!\left(\sum_{i=0}^n c_i x^i\right) = \sum_{i=0}^n \frac{c_i}{1+i}\, x^{i+1} and D ⁣(∑i=0ncixi)=∑i=1nicixi−1.D\!\left(\sum_{i=0}^n c_i x^i\right) = \sum_{i=1}^n i c_i x^{i-1}. ((a)) Show that TT is a non-singular linear operator on F[x]F[x]. Show also that TT is not invertible. ((b)) Show that DD is a linear operator on F[x]F[x] and find its null space. ((c)) Show that DT=IDT = I, and TD≠ITD \neq I. ((d)) Show that T[(Tf)g]=(Tf)(Tg)−T[f(Tg)]T[(Tf)g] = (Tf)(Tg) - T[f(Tg)] for all ff, gg in F[x]F[x]. ((e)) State and prove a rule for DD similar to the one given for TT in (d). ((f)) Suppose VV is a non-zero subspace of F[x]F[x] such that TfTf belongs to VV for each ff in VV. Show that VV is not finite-dimensional. ((g)) Suppose VV is a finite-dimensional subspace of F[x]F[x]. Prove there is an integer m≥0m \geq 0 such that Dmf=0D^m f = 0 for each ff in VV.
