Problem

A rectangular maize field has an area of 960 m2960 \text{ m}^2. The length of the field is 16 m greater than its breadth. (a) Take the breadth of the field to be xx metres. Form a quadratic equation in xx that represents the information given above. (b) Solve the equation obtained in part (a). (c) State the dimensions of the maize field, justifying the choice of the acceptable root. (d) Verify that the dimensions found satisfy both the given area and the stated relationship between length and breadth.
