Problem

a. Consider the function fm,n:[1,∞)→Rf_{m,n}:[1,\infty)\to\text{ℝ} defined by fm,n(x)=x2+mx+nf_{m,n}(x)=x^{2}+mx+n, where m,n∈Rm,n\in\text{ℝ}. b. (i) Starting from fm,n(x1)=fm,n(x2)f_{m,n}(x_{1})=f_{m,n}(x_{2}) with x1,x2∈[1,∞)x_{1},x_{2}\in[1,\infty), obtain a relation connecting x1−x2x_{1}-x_{2} with mm and nn. Show that either x1=x2x_{1}=x_{2} or an additional condition involving mm and nn must hold. c. (ii) Deduce all ordered pairs (m,n)(m,n) for which fm,nf_{m,n} is injective on the given domain.
