Problem

Suppose VV is finite-dimensional and P∈L(V)P \in \mathcal{L}(V) is such that P2=PP^2 = P and ∥Pv∥≤∥v∥\|Pv\| \leq \|v\| for every v∈Vv \in V. Prove that there exists a subspace UU of VV such that P=PUP = P_U.
