Problem

Let P(z)=anzn+an−1zn−1+⋯+a1z+a0P(z) = a_n z^n + a_{n-1}z^{n-1} + \cdots + a_1 z + a_0 be a polynomial of degree nn. (a) Suppose that an,an−1,…,a1,a0a_n, a_{n-1}, \ldots, a_1, a_0 are all real. Show that, if z1z_1 is a root of PP, then z1‾\overline{z_1} is also a root. In other words, the roots must be complex conjugates, something you likely learned without proof in high school. (b) Find an example of a polynomial that has some roots occurring as complex conjugates, and some not.
