Problem

A student gathers approximate values for three vastly different objects. a. (i) Convert the following radii into metres and write them in proper scientific notation: (a) radius of Earth =6400 km=6400\,\text{km}, (b) radius of Moon =1740 km=1740\,\text{km}, (c) radius of a hydrogen atom =5.3×10−11 m=5.3\times10^{-11}\,\text{m} (already in metres). b. (ii) State the order of magnitude of each radius. c. (iii) How many orders of magnitude separate the radius of Earth from the radius of a hydrogen atom? d. (iv) Calculate how many times the radius of Earth is greater than the radius of the Moon. Give your answer in scientific notation.
