Problem

Verify that the differential equation d2y/dx2=−kyd^2y/dx^2 = -ky has as its solution y=Acos⁡(kx)+Bsin⁡(kx)y = A\cos(kx) + B\sin(kx) where AA and BB are arbitrary constants. Show also that this solution can be written in the form y=Ccos⁡(kx+α)=C Re[ej(kx+α)]=Re[(Cejα)ejkx]y = C\cos(kx + \alpha) = C\,\text{Re}[e^{j(kx+\alpha)}] = \text{Re}[(Ce^{j\alpha})e^{jkx}] and express CC and α\alpha as functions of AA and BB.
