Problem

Consider the functions f:R∖{12}→R∖{32},f(x)=3x+52x−1,f: \mathbb R\setminus\left\{\tfrac12\right\} \to \mathbb R\setminus\left\{\tfrac32\right\},\qquad f(x)=\frac{3x+5}{2x-1}, and g:R∖{32}→R∖{12},g(x)=x+52x−3.g: \mathbb R\setminus\left\{\tfrac32\right\} \to \mathbb R\setminus\left\{\tfrac12\right\},\qquad g(x)=\frac{x+5}{2x-3}. (a) Determine the range of ff and verify that it equals the domain of gg. (b) Show algebraically that (g∘f)(x)=x(g\circ f)(x)=x for every admissible xx. (c) Show algebraically that (f∘g)(x)=x(f\circ g)(x)=x for every admissible xx. (d) Hence establish that ff and gg are inverse functions of each other, clearly stating the domains and ranges for which the conclusion holds.
