Problem

A tank filled with water is placed on a frictionless horizontal surface. A small hole of cross-sectional area a=5cm2a = 5 \text{cm}^{2} is made in the side of the tank at a depth h=1mh = 1 \text{m} below the water surface. The initial height of water column inside the tank is H=5mH = 5 \text{m} (a) Calculate the initial force required to keep the tank stationary against the reaction force of the emerging water jet. (b) As water flows out, the tank is allowed to move freely. Find the displacement of the tank until the water level falls to the level of the hole. Given: ρ=1000,kg/m3\rho = 1000,\text{kg/m}^{3}, g=10,m/s2g = 10,\text{m/s}^{2}, cross-sectional area of tank =10,m2= 10,\text{m}^{2}. Assume the mass of the tank is negligible compared to the water and the outflow is horizontal.
