Problem

Suppose A=(v1⋯vn)A = \begin{pmatrix} v_1 & \cdots & v_n \end{pmatrix} is an nn-by-nn matrix, with vkv_k denoting the kkth column of AA. Show that if (m1,…,mn)∈perm⁡n(m_1, \ldots, m_n) \in \operatorname{perm} n, then det⁡(vm1⋯vmn)=(sign⁡(m1,…,mn))det⁡A.\det \begin{pmatrix} v_{m_1} & \cdots & v_{m_n} \end{pmatrix} = (\operatorname{sign}(m_1, \ldots, m_n)) \det A.
