Problem

Consider the vectors p=(k,4,−2)\mathbf{p}=(k,4,-2) and q=(−3,−12,6)\mathbf{q}=(-3,-12,6). (i) Determine all real values of kk for which the two vectors are parallel. (ii) For the value(s) of kk found in part (i), write q\mathbf{q} as λp\lambda\mathbf{p} and hence obtain the corresponding unit vector in their common direction. a. Find all k∈Rk\in\mathbb{R} such that p\mathbf{p} and q\mathbf{q} are parallel. b. For each permissible kk, express q=λp\mathbf{q}=\lambda\mathbf{p} and then obtain a unit vector in the common direction.
